The Secrets We Keep by M.I.Hattersley
The Secrets We Keep by M. I. Hattersley is a unique book in that it has a male protagonist who is in a dire dilemma. I really enjoyed this approach, and there is a lot of detail about Rob, making this book almost a character study. Written from the first-person perspective, Rob is a relatable character with a secret past. His marriage to Jessie is stressed, mostly due to a new baby, and the restaurant that Rob owns going through tough times. The narrative is relentless, subtly unnerving, masterfully put together, and exceptionally written. I was captivated by this book, unable to set it aside as Rob's past and secret truths inexorably steer him toward a horrible downfall. The narrative's unexpected twists culminate in an astonishing conclusion. A great read and looking forward to more from this author.
